Fourth annual halal food festival in Fremont draws 7,000

The aroma of cooking meats mingled with the scents of halal Mexican, Chinese, Middle Eastern, American, Pakistani and Indian food that were served up on Jul sixteen in Fremont at the region’s 4th annual halal food festival.

About 7,000 people converged at the brand new festival location, 40451 Albrae Petersburg to enjoy the different types of halal food the Bay Area has to offer, festival organizers said.

In Arabic halal means permissible and refers to a dietary law similar to kosher food for Jews, where the food must be prepared a specific way and the name of God must be mentioned at the time of the preparation. Pork and alcohol are prohibited.
