Citywise: Oakland to pay laid-off museum workers $3.1 million

Published Jun 6

Thursday in the council chamber at City Hall, 37101 Newark Blvd.

Twenty-one former city workers who lost their jobs when Oakland relinquished control of the Oakland Museum of Cali. 3 years ago are poised to share a $3.1 mill. settlement in their grievance against the city.

Oakland turned over museum operations to a nonprofit as a cost-saving measure during the Great Recession. The 44 city workers at the museum — members of SEIU, Local 1021, and IFPTE, Local 21 — lost their jobs, and those who were hired back got less pay and poorer benefits.

«…Mission Peak Homes would build the homes with sizes ranging from 1,900 to 2,500 square feet.»
No settlement has been finalized with SEIU.

City Attorney Barbara Parker was in meetings Fri and not available for comment.
